泰国较古老的河马用水果和歌曲庆祝生日普拉潘·尚凯（PrapanChankaew）

泰国春武里（路透社）-当孩子们和其他观众唱歌来纪念她的55岁生日时，泰国较古老的河马梅里（MaeMali）用各种各样的水果和蔬菜切成小块，以蛋糕的形式排列。


湄马里（MaeMali）在泰国语中的意思是“茉莉花母亲”，两年前从曼谷的一家动物园搬到泰国东部的考觉遥动物园的一个院子里，已经超过了河马的典型预期寿命（约40至50岁）。


动物园负责人AttapornSrihayrun说：“MaeMali遥是一个奶奶。

湄马里（MaeMali）诞生了许多小牛，她的后代遥居住在整个东南亚遥/地区的动物园中的河马数量为21。


Attaporn说：“MaeMali已经不再生育，因为她已经年纪大了。
但是我们仍然会照顾她，使她能够成为世界上寿命较长的河马遥。
”

在野外，河马生活在撒哈拉以南非洲的河流和湖泊中，栖息地的丧失意味着它遥被认为是脆弱的。


在邻国菲律宾，当时被认为是圈养史上较古老的河马的伯莎于2017年去世，享年65岁。


据报道，另一只河马，Lucifer，或“Lu”，今年1月在美国佛罗里达州的一个野生动物园庆祝了他的60岁生日。


成年动物的体重从1,500公斤（3,304磅）到3200公斤不等，是仅次于大象的第二重的陆地动物，白天在水里度过一天的热量，晚上到岸上觅食草和水果。


世界野生动物基金会（WorldWildlifeFund）估计，野外还剩下约115,000至130,000。

"MaeMalicannotreproduceanymorebecauseshe'squiteelderly.Butwewillstilltakegreatcareofhersothatshecanbecomeoneofthelongestlivinghippopotamusintheworld,"saidAttaporn.

Inthewild,thehippopotamuslivesinriversandlakesinsub-SaharanAfricaandhabitatlossmeansit'snowconsideredvulnerable.

IntheneighbouringPhilippines,Bertha,consideredtobetheoldesthippopotamusincaptivityatthetime,diedin2017,aged65.

Anotherhippopotamus,Lucifer,or"Lu",isreportedtohavecelebratedhis60thbirthdayatawildlifeparkintheU.S.stateofFloridainJanuarythisyear.
